Oquossoc ATV Club Trail Update: Repairing 2024 Storm Damage

The December and January storms of nearly a year ago wreaked havoc on our ATV trail system. A concerted effort between the Oquossoc ATV Club, landowners, the Bureau of Parks and Lands, and contractors made it all possible to repair the trails that are now open.

One of the biggest projects was the replacement of the washed out bridge on Mountain Pond Road that prevented our club from opening the trail between Routes 4 and 17. It has been replaced with a 50’ temporary bridge. This was a huge project and a major accomplishment for the ATV Club and would not have been possible without the help of our Rangeley Lakes Snowmobile Club.

A huge thank you to Matt Kennedy and John Lewis for helping get the beams accessible so they could be transported to the job site. A bigger thank you to Joe Haley and M&H who stepped up to install the bridge. Joe’s expertise and experience using an excavator are just amazing.

We need to thank our Trail Master, Manning Mersereau, who played a major role in getting this temporary bridge in place and other trail work that allowed us to open the trails.

While we have been able to open our east/west connection, our north/south connection remains closed. The Bemis Track, between Shelton Trail , south, to Route 17 sustained major damage and has been closed by our landowner. Repairs to this section are anticipated but they won’t happen this year.

Ride safe and enjoy the trails. Please note that our work is not complete and there are sections that are rougher than we like but may be ridden safely at prudent speeds.
